Even among a franchise’s most avid fans, there are divisive elements. The funny thing is that for Mass Effect, or certainly, for the first game, it’s the Mako.
To hear some players describe this hunk of junk, it can cross Hudson Bay without getting its treads wet. When in fact, it steers like a drunken moose on ice.
Of course, it all depends on which system you play the game on. You’ll never find me advocating playing on a console if you can get a game on PC. I just don’t like feeling complicit in what I perceive as giant cash ripoff. Instead allow me to direct your attention to the Nexus modding community where you can find fan-made mods for all three games. The link below allows you to play Mass Effect 1 with a controller.
Even if, like me, you suck at controllers, you will want this for driving the Mako, It takes the experience from ‘OMG why am I upside down??” to straight up drive and shoot. So worth doing!

All that being said, the design, the look of the vehicle makes me happy and if I had a model of this thing I would absolutely stick it on my bookshelf.
Mike Gamble, Producer for Mass effect Andromeda, announced at SDCC in 2014 the return of the Mako in the next installment set in the Mass Effect universe, Mass Effect Andromeda. He has promised that:
“We’re playing around with a bunch of different physics for the Mako. The thing that we have to do is make sure it is as responsive as possible,” said Mike Gamble, Producer. “We’ve learned a thing or two over the years.”

A huge relief that. I trust BioWare will come up with a sensibly driving transport vehicle that works well for the keyboard!
