Screenie a Day – Mass Effect, Captain Kirrahe

As quirky side characters go few in Mass Effect stuck in my mind as much as Captain Kirrahe. Maybe because he echoes with all the World War II movies I grew up with as a child.

There’s just something immensely funny about the obligatory pep talk that most of us sense. You know one of the grunts listening, is rolling his eyes at his comrades. And yet I am stirred a little bit all the same. I know, Kirrahe is to some extent a satirical take on flag waving and yet my inner tribalist is rooting for the little green guys.

Anyways, Kirrahe is good people, getting him to survive Virmire is totally worth doing even if only for the brief encounter you have with him in Mass Effect 3. Hey, he and his team become a war asset so there’s that for the min/maxing.

There are several points at which you are able to assist Kirrahe’s teams on your approach to Saren’s base. There’s a coms station you can take out, flyers you can blow up and alarms you can disable. Do them all and he’ll make it!

He is a member of the Salarian 3rd Infiltration Regiment of the Special Tasks Group (STG) and you first encounter him on Virmire where he is sent out by the council to investigate Saren’s activities. And I bet Toto would be his favorite band!

He’s voiced in both Mass Effect and Mass Effect 3 by George Szilagyi who’s also done voices for Jade Empire and voices Ish in Mass Effect 2.
